Community Engagement

Community engagement is no longer the icing on the cake when it comes to the planning process.

Changes to the law mean it is now a crucial aspect of whether your development or project makes it beyond drawings on paper.

In response, Indigo has developed a very successful and effective community engagement service, using core tools to provided tailored support to clients to ensure they meet their obligations. In implementing a community engagement strategy for a client, we can:

  • engage with local community council/s including presentation of the proposed development and detailed discussions around the preferred nature, structure and governance of a community benefit fund;
  • organise meetings with local political stakeholders (local MP, local MSPs, local councillors and council officers) to outline the proposed development, its key benefits and significant contribution towards meeting renewable energy targets;
  • arrange meetings/engagement with other local stakeholders with a view to building local consensus in support of the proposals and, where possible, securing third party endorsement of them;

  • establish and maintain a regular flow of positive stories concerning the development via the local media;
  • seek to identify and address the key concerns of opposition groups in the local community / negating the arguments of opponents to the proposals;
  • gather intelligence to address any emerging obstacles to approval of the planning application / actively addressing any misinformation concerning the proposals;
  • and ensure careful management of communications with local media and the local community in the run-up to and coinciding with the lodging of a planning application for development of a site.
